ABOUT INDIA

India is the land of Budha. The worlds largest democracy India, officially called the Republic of India (in the regional languageHindi: भारत गणराज्य Bhārat Ganarājya) )is a country in Asia.
Dating from the Indus valley civilisation this vast region was discovered by many through sea and land routes with vast empires which was known for its rich wealth of culture and treasures in the past. The name `India’ is derived from the River Indus, the valleys around which were the home of the early settlers. The Aryan worshippers referred to the river Indus as the Sindhu. The Persian invaders converted it into Hindu. The name `Hindustan’ combines Sindhu and Hindu and thus refers to the land of the Hindus.
A peninsula in geographical area, the country’s three sides are surrounded by seas and oceans namely, the Indian ocean in the south, the Bay of Bengal in the east and the Arabian sea in the west. The north is covered by the Himalayas. India has a coastline of 7517 kilometers. The neighbouring countries include Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka, China, Pakistan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Myanmar.

Historical History

India never invaded any country in her last 100000 years of history. 5000 years ago, Indians established Harappan culture in Sindhu Valley (Indus Valley Civilization) the most ancient civilisation in the world.

Science / Math

Chess was invented in India. Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus, originated in India. The Decimal Value System were developed in India in 100 B.C. The "pi" the Pythagorean Theorem was discovered in the 6th Century. Quadratic Equations were used by Sridharacharya in the 11th century.

Education

The world's first university was established in Takshila in 700 BC. More than 10,500 students from all over the world studied more than 60 subjects. The University of Nalanda built in the 4th century was one of the greatest achievements of ancient India in the field of education. It is a Multilingual country where Hindi is the national language, English and Hindi are widely spoken

Nature cure

Ayurveda is the earliest school of medicine known to mankind. The Father of Medicine, Charaka, consolidated Ayurveda 2500 years ago. Yoga has its origins in India and has existed for over 5,000 years.

Religion

The four great religions born in India - Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism, are followed by 25% of the world's population. There are more than 49 religions followed in India. Jainism and Buddhism were founded in India in 600 B.C. and 500 B.C. respectively. Islam is India's and the world's second largest religion. There are 300,000 active mosques in India, more than in any other country, including the Muslim world. The oldest European church and synagogue in India are in the city of Cochin. They were built in 1503 and 1568 respectively. Jews and Christians have lived continuously in India since 200 B.C. and 52 A.D. respectively. Sikhism originated in the Holy city of Amritsar in Punjab. Famous for housing the Golden Temple, the city was founded in 1577. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, runs his government in exile from Dharmashala in northern India.

India was one of the richest countries till the time of British rule in the early 17th Century. Indias wealth was looted by British, Portugese, Mongols, Later was classified as a developing nation. Until then it had British, Portugese as invaders and traders and prior to that it consisted of many Empires. And in 20th century The rich knowledge base is transforming the country into rich country again. India is a republic country with 28 states and 7 union territories with a parliamentary type of democracy since 1947.

Until 1947 the country depended much on agriculture, after the industrial revolution and the economic liberalization from the year 2000 the country saw a tremendarous growth in Industries and has been recognized as an investing country by the world under BRIC. This was mainly due to its liberalization which lead to industrialization and having a large consumer base.
